Leigh is a town located in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, within the Greater Manchester area in North West England. It is situated approximately 10 miles west of Manchester city center and has a population of around 50,000 people. Historically, Leigh was an important center for the coal mining and textile industries during the 19th and early 20th centuries, but these industries have since declined. Today, the town has a more diverse economy, with sectors such as retail, healthcare, and education being major employers. Leigh is home to several notable landmarks and attractions, including Leigh Centurions rugby league club, the Pennington Flash Country Park, and the Leigh Spinners Mill, a former cotton mill that has been converted into a cultural and arts center. The town also has good transport links, with the A580 East Lancashire Road running through the area, providing access to nearby cities such as Manchester and Liverpool. The town also has its own train station, with regular services to Manchester, Wigan, and Liverpool.
