Blackburn is a town in Lancashire, England. It is situated on the north bank of the River Darwen and is located approximately 9 miles (14 km) east of the city of Preston and 20 miles (32 km) north of Manchester. Blackburn has a rich industrial heritage, and during the 19th century, it was a major centre for the textile industry, particularly cotton weaving. Today, the town is still home to a number of manufacturing companies, although the economy has diversified to include a range of sectors such as retail, healthcare, and education. Blackburn is also known for its diverse community, with a significant Muslim population, as well as other ethnic and religious groups. The town has a number of historic landmarks and attractions, including Blackburn Cathedral, Witton Country Park, and the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. The town has a population of approximately 117,963 (as of the 2011 census) and is part of the larger Blackburn with Darwen borough, which has a population of around 149,700.
